PGA Tour

Golf is back. And so is my addiction to anything about Vijay Singh. I think I am a virtual-stalker :)

Golf

I must thank Vijay Singh for piquing my interest in golf. Yeah, it is quite surprising. While most of the world latched onto golf after tiger-slam, I never cared for this soporofic game. People didn't run in this game, nobody got hurt (although you might be surprised to know-players do get injured), and the commentary was more suitable for meditation rather than pumping adrenalin through the veins.

So, when Vijay Singh told the world that Annika Sorenstam didn't have it, and a friend told me that it is because he is Indian, I was in.

I have become so interested that I read each and every story which has Vijay Singh in it. It does help that he is the number 1 player in the world, and the only player who when I back him to win, wins. I also love it that he doesnt care for the media, the world or those who can't stop kissing tiger's ass.

The media is definitely against Singh (though the players root for him). You only have to follow Ron Sirak of golf world who cant stop talking about how Singh's 9 win year has too many John deers. Or Ferguson of AP, who does write well when Singh does well. But if you read him over a period of time, you know that he is waiting for Singh to go down. The whole pack is. And that Singh doesn't throw them a bone makes them even more restless.

The shame of it all is that there is plenty to learn from Singh. He is probably the most driven sportsman - equal to Lance Armstrong, if not more. The fact that he won 9 events wasn't ranked the top event in Golf, Mickelson's master's win was. I can guarantee that had it been tiger, he would even have won the AP sportsman of the year award.

It is turning out to be an interesting year for golf, and I would be rooting for Singh. I know he wont win as many times as last year, but nothing will give me more pleasure than watching the media praise singh, in spite of themselves

So far so good

I have been on phone this entire weekend. Talked with almost all my friends - a couple for longer than I wanted to. Now, don't get me wrong, but there is something wrong with a 90 minute call - with a guy, especially when he cannot stop talking about himself.

On another note, it is so hard to keep myself at one place. I do get bored easily. Need discipline. Lots of it.
